How many works in each of the 209 collections, and how much we already hold · 21 August 2026

A census across all 209 collections (786 volumes) in the uncatalogued tier-1 material. Two signals per collection: (1) a dkar-chag reading pass counting the table-of-contents lines (a rough upper bound — TOC lines are mostly chapters of a few works, so this over-counts, as the Rendawa read showed); and (2) a cross-check against our Sungbum catalogue by author — the reliable signal: how many of that author’s works we already hold. A catalogue match (like Rendawa’s 63) means the collection is largely already ours; no match means either genuinely new material or that the volumes carry no author name in the text to match on (the W-id-only sets). Exact work counts come from the deep reading pass, collection by collection.

How to read this. The 74 collections with a catalogue match are substantially already catalogued (their author’s works are in our Sungbum) — Rendawa is the worked example (vols 1–3 done). The 135 with no match hold 380 volumes and are the frontier, but that number is an upper bound on what is new: some are truly uncatalogued authors (Mipham, the Fifth Dalai Lama), while others are simply volume sets whose text names no author to match (Thuken’s W4CZ302655, the Blue Annals W7494) and may already be partly held. Deep reading resolves each.
